Cocodrie fishing guide
Cocodrie is a small fishing town in Terrebonne Parish about 9 miles below Chauvin, on the edge of Terrebonne Bay. Inshore, locals fish the marsh, the north shores of Lake Pelto and Lake Barre, the ship passes, shell reefs and the barrier island beaches for speckled trout and reds. The nearshore production platforms hold trout in summer plus mangrove snapper and cobia, and offshore boats run for grouper, amberjack, tuna and swordfish.

Caught on offshore structure when the federal season is open, which in 2026 is September 1 to October 13.

80 ft, asked and answered
Fishing Cocodrie, asked and answered
When is the best time to fish Cocodrie for speckled trout?
Early summer is prime time, with spawning trout filling the beaches in June and July. April and September are transition months, and in January trout hold on deep shell and rock reefs after cold fronts.
Where do Cocodrie anglers find trout in spring?
The north shores of Lake Pelto and Lake Barre are good April spots, especially where marsh water drains south into the lake. Lake Pelto fishes well again in fall.
What is biting offshore out of Cocodrie in September?
Gag grouper, mangrove snapper, cobia around the rigs and amberjack are all good September targets, and fall yellowfin follow the shrimp boats in about 200 feet of water. Check open seasons first: in 2026 gag closed at the end of September and amberjack closed at 12:01 a.m. October 14.
Can I fish Cocodrie without a boat?
Yes. LA 57 between Cocodrie and Dulac is a popular bank fishing stretch, and Island Road in nearby Pointe-aux-Chenes has free public fishing piers.
