Delacroix fishing guide

Delacroix Island sits at the end of Delacroix Highway in St. Bernard Parish, where Bayou Terre aux Boeufs and Bayou Gentilly meet a maze of bayous, canals and small lakes. The inside water from Lake Batola to Oak River holds trout and reds all winter, so you can fish out of the wind when the open water is rough. In summer the bigger trout move out toward Black Bay and the Breton Sound islands.

80 ft, asked and answered

Fishing Delacroix, asked and answered

Where do I fish Delacroix in winter?

Stay inside. The lakes and bayous from Lake Batola to Oak River hold trout and reds all winter and let you get out of the wind. Fish the deep holes early and on cold days, then move up on the nearby flats as it warms.

What is the go-to rig around Delacroix?

A popping cork with live shrimp, a live cocahoe or a soft plastic. Gold spoons and spinnerbaits also catch reds along the grass banks.

Where can I launch and buy bait in Delacroix?

Sweetwater Marina and Serigne's are both on Delacroix Highway. Serigne's lists live bait, fresh market bait, ice and fuel, and Sweetwater has a bait shop and can help with a fishing license.

Can I keep flounder this time of year?

Not from October 15 through November 30. Louisiana closes southern flounder harvest for everyone during that window every year.

Which marine forecast covers Delacroix?

The NWS New Orleans forecast for Breton Sound, zone GMZ535. For tides, use the NOAA Shell Beach station.
