Chauvin fishing guide
Chauvin is a bayou town strung along LA 56 in Terrebonne Parish, with Lake Boudreaux just west of the highway and the Boudreaux and Robinson canals running off it. This is close-to-the-road fishing: Lake Boudreaux and the broken marsh north of it are five minutes from the launch for redfish and trout, and the canals along LA 56 are the most popular bank fishing spots in the parish, with Boudreaux Canal a winter trout hot spot. Cocodrie, the nearest existing guide, sits about 9 miles farther down at the end of the road and is the jumping off point for Terrebonne Bay, the barrier islands and the rigs, so Chauvin is the place for short runs, bank fishing and cold weather trout rather than open water.

Redfish
Peak: March, April, May, June, July, August
Caught all year in the brackish water; in the broken marsh north of Lake Boudreaux reds feed on crabs 10 to 15 feet off the grass and hit spinnerbaits or a soft plastic shrimp under a popping cork.
Black drum
The parish fishing guide lists black drum as an all year catch in the saltwater and brackish marsh.
Sheepshead
Another all year marsh fish in Terrebonne Parish, often caught alongside reds and drum.
Flounder
Peak: June, July, August
A summer catch toward the Gulf; Louisiana closes flounder harvest October 15 through November 30 every year.
Tripletail
Peak: June, July, August
The parish guide lists tripletail among the summer Gulf fish down the bayou.
Mackerel
Peak: June, July, August

80 ft, asked and answered
Fishing Chauvin, asked and answered
Where can I fish from the bank in Chauvin?
The Boudreaux and Robinson canals along LA 56 are the most popular shoreline spots in Terrebonne Parish, and Boudreaux Canal gets crowded in winter. Island Road in nearby Pointe-aux-Chenes has free public fishing piers.
When is the best time for speckled trout around Chauvin?
Boudreaux Canal is a winter trout hot spot because fish use it to move to and from the lake. Down the road at Cocodrie, the parish guide says trout are caught year round but chances are best in the warm summer months.
Is Lake Boudreaux worth fishing without a long run?
Yes. It sits just west of LA 56, and the lake and the broken marsh north of it are about five minutes from the launch, with redfish in the marsh and trout in the deeper open water around the edges.
Can I keep flounder this fall?
Not from October 15 through November 30. Louisiana closes southern flounder harvest for everyone during that window every year.
