Houma fishing guide

Houma is the hub of Terrebonne Parish, and the fishing runs south from town down a fan of bayous and highways, LA 56 to Chauvin and Cocodrie, LA 57 to Dulac, Bayou Dularge, and Pointe-aux-Chenes to the east. Those roads end in brackish marsh, canals and lakes that hold redfish, speckled trout, black drum and sheepshead all year, with Terrebonne Bay and the Gulf beyond. Bank anglers get real options here too, from the free piers on Island Road to the canals along LA 56.

80 ft, asked and answered

Fishing Houma, asked and answered

Where can I fish from the bank around Houma?

The five free piers on Island Road at Pointe-aux-Chenes are the easiest, and they are good for crabbing too. Boudreaux and Robinson canals along LA 56, Bayou Dularge Road down to Falgout Canal, LA 57 between Cocodrie and Dulac, and the Pontoon Bridge over the Houma Navigation Canal are the other popular bank spots.

When do speckled trout bite in Terrebonne Parish?

Trout bite year round at Cocodrie, with better odds in the warm summer months. In winter they move into Boudreaux Canal off LA 56, which gets crowded with bank anglers.

Where is the most reliable redfish water near Houma?

Pointe-aux-Chenes, east of Houma, holds redfish all year, along with black drum, trout and sheepshead. PAC Kayak Marina in Montegut rents kayaks there and sells fresh and frozen bait.

Can I keep flounder in the fall around Houma?

Not from October 15 through November 30. October is the peak flounder month, but Louisiana closes southern flounder harvest for all anglers during that window every year.

Which NOAA station gives tides for Houma?

Use Cocodrie, station 8762928, for tide predictions in Terrebonne Bay. It does not report water temperature or wind, so check West Bank 1, Bayou Gauche, station 8762482, for water temperature.
